We opened at our Griffin Street location in May 2017 with our first Escape Room experience, TORTURECORP, adding HOST in 2018. We later added a 'Co-Op Mode' to TORTURECORP, allowing us to host larger groups of 8-12 players, both locked into separate spaces, having to work together to escape.  We are also very proud to have been the first Escape Room in Wales to offer a Welsh language option, having had TORTURECORP fully translated and bookable as a Welsh Language option. 

We were Newport's first Escape Room experience and quickly garnered our Five Star rating on TripAdvisor as well as bagging The South Wales Argus Business Award for 'Start Up Business Of The Year' and The Voice Magazine's 'Activity Of The Year' 2018.

We have been on an extended hiatus since then and are now relaunching as a new partnership with original co-owner & director Ellie Chopping & husband Chris Chopping, happily continuing the tradition of keeping The Escape Rooms a family business. 

Having decided to make our return to Newport’s City Centre in the summer of 2025, work started on finding the perfect venue and planning the launch of our two new games THE OCCULTIST and BATTLE OF THE BANDS ‘99 which are both in development at our Corn Exchange venue (for news as to when we are ready to open - be sure to get on our Mailing List) . We reached out to the only other Escape Room in town to collaborate.

However, in an exciting plot twist, they were looking to move on to other things and asked us if we’d like to take over… so we played their rooms, we saw how much potential the site had to add even more rooms of our own, (and much sooner than we’d dreamed)… well it was an easy decision... if we could work out how to pull it off. With a lot of number crunching, huge support from both sides of our family and significant assistance in the form of funding from The Development Bank of Wales… we made it happen. 

So here we are, the new owners of Wales #1 and number #3 escape rooms games (just ask Escape The Review), with two new rooms constructed and being developed… and big plans for more projects just around the corner. It’s an exciting time for us and we’re honoured for all of the players who join us along the way.
